Administrative Access and Software Downloads
Administrative access is not granted by default in compliance with OIT Managed Desktop Support’s Administrative Access Policy and the “Least Privilege Access” control found in the Endpoint Protection Standard.
If a user has access beyond the scope of their role, they may be able to obtain or modify information in unauthorized ways. By delegating access permissions carefully and deliberately, we limit the risk of attackers damaging University systems and information.
Temporary admin privileges can be requested through Sciences IT, including to install software. Software that is not available through NC State, must be ITPC or Clickwrap approved. Software Center for Windows and Self Service for Mac are curated application libraries available through your desktop and don’t require admin to install. Find out more on our Software Purchasing and Support page.
