Phishing & Account Lockouts
Phishing is the most common way that cybercriminals gain access to your data. These attacks are becoming more sophisticated and more common, and can be incredibly disruptive. Please review OIT’s article on how to avoid and report phishing scams.
Sciences IT cannot reactivate your account if you’ve been locked out due to a phishing attack. You must contact OIT directly to restore access. Wait times can exceed 1 hr during a high volume event.
If you’re device has been compromised, you will need to submit it to Sciences IT for remediation. In this event, our team may be forced to provide you with a clean install and cannot guarantee any of your data will be saved. It is your responsibility to ensure your critical data is backed up! Find out more about your data backup options.
Security Exceptions
Exceptions to NC State IT Policies may be granted on a case-by-case basis. To request an exception:
- Email help@sciences and provide a valid business justification
- Sciences IT can submit an exception request to OIT on your behalf or you can submit one yourself
- If approved, you will be required to work with IT teams to develop compensating controls and may have limited access to campus resources and support
- Exceptions must be resubmitted and renewed yearly
