Statistics – Virtual Teaching Lab

This is the recommended environment if you are taking a distance education/online statistics course or a computing course on campus that requires you to use your laptop to access Statistics Software

The VTL is only for students currently enrolled in statistics courses or MAJORS of the statistics department. Once your class ends so will your access.

Prerequisites

It is recommended that you use Google Chrome as your web browser when following these instructions.

If you’re using the campus wireless network please confirm that you’re using the campus ncsu or eduroam wireless network. The ncsu-guest network will NOT allow the connection to be made to the servers.

You can register your computer at https://nomad.ncsu.edu to bypass logging into the ncsu wifi.

  2. Login to Google with your @ncsu.edu account. https://gmail.ncsu.edu/
  3. Have you connected to the VTL in the past?
    • Yes — Skip to Step 5
    • No — Continue to Next Step
  4. Download this file to your desktop.
    Name: Statistics VTL.rdpw
  5. {Double Click} Statistics VTL.rdpw
    (This will Open the Azure Remote Desktop Connection.)
  6. Sign in: UNITYID@ncsu.edu
    • jdoe22ncsu.edu
    • (Campus Password)
    • DUO Authentication
    • (Campus Password)

Mac Users

  2. Login to Google with your @ncsu.edu account. https://gmail.ncsu.edu/
  3. Open “Microsoft Remote Desktop”
  4. Have you connected to the VTL in the past?
    • Yes — Skip to Step 8
    • No — Continue to Next Step
  5. {Click} Connections then Add Workspace
  6. {Type} https://rdweb.wvd.microsoft.com
  7. Sign in: UNITYID@ncsu.edu
    • jdoe22@ncsu.edu
    • (Campus Password)
    • DUO Authentication
    • (Campus Password)
  8. {Click} “Workspaces” in Microsoft Remote Desktop
  9. {Click} Statistics VTL
  10. Sign in: UNITYID@ncsu.edu
    • jdoe22@ncsu.edu
    • (Campus Password)

Linux Users/Web Interface

  1. Goto VCL Reservations
  2. Have you made your VTL reservation?
    • Yes — Continue
    • No —
      • {Click} “New Reservation”
      • (Choose) “Statistics VTL (AVD)”
  3. {Click} “Connect”
  4. {Click} “Open the WVD portal“.
  5. Sign in: UNITYID@ncsu.edu
