Statistics – Overview

The most important resource to a statistician is access to computer resources. Each member (faculty, staff, visitors and students) has a dedicated PC with either two or one large flat-screen monitor. The PCs are connected to internet with a number of printers available to access. The department has a Linux simulation cluster and a Windows virtual teaching lab available as additional resources.

Each computing resource has SAS 9.4, R, and Matlab available on them. Many of the computers are attached via network attach storage to allow for the storage of files to work seamlessly between different computers. Most computers have i7 or equivalent processors and a minimum of 16GB of RAM available.

The department maintains its infrastructure in dedicated server rooms with restricted access and battery backups. The computer data is backed up to maintain data integrity in the event of possible hardware failure.
