Linux
In order to add a printer in Linux you will need sudo access. If you do not have sudo access, please email us so that we can assist. If you do have sudo access, follow these steps:
- You will need to download the proper PPD (Postscript Printer Description) file for the printer you’re installing: (Linux-PS-PPD file) and save it to your Computer (for example, your Downloads folder).
- Open terminal and run the following command, but replace PRINTERNAME with a name for the printer you are adding and IPADDRESS with the IP Address of the printer you are adding (please make note of the IP address, as the menu automatically collapses). . sudo /usr/sbin/lpadmin -p PRINTERNAME -E -v socket://IPADDRESS:9100 -P ~/Downloads/<name_of_PPD_file>.ppd
- To set this as your default printer, run the following command, replacing PRINTERNAME with the name you gave to the printer you just addedsudo /usr/sbin/lpadmin -d PRINTERNAME
Configure a Network Printer
If you have a new printer and need it configured on the network, reach out to Sciences IT. Networked printers must be connected to the wired network. Standard ComTech rates apply for new or inactive ports.
