Apple Updates & AI Options

Apple Management Updates

  • The University is in the process of upgrading how Apple devices are managed and supported to ensure a more robust and secure experience. 
  • Sciences IT has started to transition College Apple devices. To ensure minimal disruption, you must update to the latest version of the operating systemby August 15 (MacOS 26 Tahoe for computers, iOS 26 for mobile devices)!
    • To update:
      • Backup critical data and ensure you have reliable power and network 
      • Navigate to System Settings > General > Software Update
      • Plan for the update to take ~45 min 
    • Devices that must remain on an older operating system will require an erase and reinstall and you must reach out to Sciences IT for support by July 31

Windows 10 Extended Request Renewal 

  • If you have a computer that is running Windows 10 and you are able to update to Windows 11, follow these instructions and do so as soon as possible. 
  • Computers not able to upgrade must contact Sciences IT to be re enrolled for Extended Security Updates by August 14th.
    • Computers running Windows 10 that have not been enrolled will be isolated on the penalty network without access to the internet.

Canva Now Available ($150/yr) 

Chat GPT Business and Claude Team Plans

  • Sciences IT is now managing access to Chat GPT Business and Claude Team plans, both cost $240/yr. Claude Premium licenses are also available at $1200/yr. Costs are prorated based on contract renewal dates.
    • Individual Chat GPT and Claude licenses are not allowed! See NC State Recommended AI Tools for more details.

  • Research Facilitation Services, NC State AI Hub for Science, and Applied AI Initiative invite faculty, researchers, postdoctoral scholars, and graduate students to an interactive workshop on accessing and effectively using GPU computing resources available to the NC State research community.
